The Journey Begins....

My name is Alissa Fisette.  I have been teaching music in the Comox Valley for 14 years now, but my musical journey started long before that.  When I was a child my family moved from Victoria to Winnipeg.  On the street where we moved to all of the kids took piano lessons.  Once I heard them play I really wanted to learn.  So my parents scraped together the money for a piano and put me into lessons.  After my first lesson I couldn't go to sleep that night , because all I could think about was playing piano.   I guess it was love at first note.

When I was 16 I started teaching piano.  Whenever the question came up as to what you want to be when you grow up my answer was always teacher.  I love everything about it.  The moment a student grasps a difficult idea, watching everyone grow, sharing with them what I love about music.  So, loving playing the piano and loving teaching should have made it an easy career choice.  However I had other loves as well.  So I dabbled in a variety of things in university before I decided on music.

At the same time as playing the piano I also took up the flute and singing.  As to which is my favorite, it just depends on the day!  Eventually all of this led to me doing a Bachelor of Music at Brandon University with a major in piano and a minor in flute.  It was an amazing 4 years that I wouldn't trade for anything.

I have done my share of performing, but when it comes down to it my passion is for teaching.  I never want to do anything else!!  I spend as much free time as I can researching new teaching ideas, and discovering what resources and music are out there to aid in the learning process.  You will always have fresh and new activities and ideas in your lessons!
